Dyson Airwrap i.d. Review — Styling Without the Heat Damage

86Hair Care

The Airwrap's whole pitch is styling hair using air rather than extreme heat — the Coanda effect draws hair onto the barrel using airflow instead of clamping and cooking it the way a traditional curling iron does. The i.d. version adds a small connector on the barrels that, paired with the Dyson app, reads your hair's temperature and adjusts airflow in real time to avoid heat damage without you having to think about it.

The attachment system is genuinely versatile: curling barrels in two sizes, a round volumizing brush, a smoothing dryer and a pre-styling dryer cover most styling needs in one tool, which is the actual value proposition here — replacing several separate styling tools rather than being just a fancier curling iron.

The honest caveat is the learning curve. This is not a five-minute styling tool the first few times you use it — figuring out how hair wraps onto the barrel and which attachment suits your hair type takes practice, and tutorials genuinely help. Once you're past that, styling time drops close to what a normal blow-dry-and-curl routine takes.

It's a serious investment, and if you rarely style your hair beyond a basic blow-dry, it's hard to justify. But for anyone who'd otherwise be paying for regular salon blowouts or replacing damaged straighteners and curling irons every year or two, it pays for itself in a way a cheaper tool won't.
